MINI VS. Porsche wins coveted Gold Effie

We won the big one last night. The Gold in the hotly contested Automotive category at the Effie awards in New York City.

We set out to reinvigorate our thinking about what it means for MINI to be a challenger and how to get people to pay attention to the brand in new ways. We wanted to explore MINI’s underdog spirit and its underlying optimism, as well as its ability to be exhilarating. Thus, the idea of challenging Porsche to a race was born. We didn’t win the race, but we won a Gold Effie!

When MINI first launched in the US they mounted one on top of an SUV to show just how small it was. Well, with the launch of the all-new, four-wheel drive Countryman, MINI isn’t so mini anymore. So we simply couldn’t resist mounting a classic MINI on top of the Countryman, to show just how much we’ve grown. The copy on the side of the Countryman reads: “Holds everything you need for a fun weekend.”

MINI wins Radio Marketer of the year at the 2010 Mercury Awards

Our client Jennifer Layton, Brand Communications Manager at MINI USA, accepted the Radio Marketer of the Year honor last night on behalf of the automotive company’s innovative advertising, creativity and use of the medium for MINI. And the agency picked up an Agency/Production Award for our spot “Colonoscopy.”

Porsche won. But we came in 2nd!

Well, the race is over and Porsche beat MINI by a couple seconds. But it was a blast nonetheless, and the MINI community showed up en masse. We even gave Hyundai (rhymes with Sunday) a role since they showed some bona fide initiative and tenacity in jumping on the back of our event. Besides, we really needed a pace car.
